An Intermedia/Advanced Level Workshop on “Photojournalism: A Decisive Moment”, 24 - 26 September, 2012 Invitation to Nominate Participant(s) to Attend Workshop.

We are pleased to announce that the Asian Institute for Development Communication (Aidcom), in collaboration with Universiti Selangor (Unisel), is organising a 3-day Workshop on “Photojournalism: A Decisive Moment” from 24 – 26 September, 2012 at Hotel Singgahsana, Persiaran Barat, Off Jalan Sultan, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

This Workshop is designed specially for Photographers/Cameramen, Journalists/Reporters/ Stringers, Publication Personnel, Public Relations Officers/Coordinators, and Media Relations Officers/Coordinators, working in the corporate industry and service sectors, government and private agencies, universities and institutions where regular official publications, such as annual reports and other monthly information materials like newsletters / flysheets are produced for dissemination of information. Any individual / student who is interested in photography would benefit immensely by attending this Workshop.

At the conclusion of the Workshop, participants will appreciate and understand why only certain good photographs have been selected for the print materials; the subject and techniques; critique techniques when looking at pictures; the differences between job done and job well done by the photographer; the importance of photography in photojournalism; image management and picture archiving; picture selection and layout; and much more. Participants will also learn principles of composition to improve their work for publications. A Certificate of Attendance will be presented.

Course Objectives:

• To understand the history and contemporary status of the photojournalism profession.
• To recognise classic photographs and the photographers who have influenced the ethos of photojournalism.
• To understand the technical, aesthetic and news value that make a photograph “good” photojournalism.
• To combine photos, captions, headlines and text into attractive and functional layouts.
• To become acquainted with digital imaging and publication technology.

The registration fee per participant for the Workshop is RM 1,500. within Malaysia and U$600.00 outside Malaysia. Lunch and 2 coffeebreaks and workshops materials will be provided.
